GDIN has just completed a six week expedition in Arizona and New Mexico
during which time Ms. Oceane Vibert filmed disaster sites and places at risk
of disasters and interviewed native Americans. GDIN wishes to thank the
people of the Navajo and Pueblo nations for their help in this important
venture. This information will augment letters and other material to be
used to support a funding request to the US Congress for the network
proposed for the Navajo and Pueblo peoples.
Meeting on Native American Network
A meeting between officers from the US Departments of Agriculture, Homeland
Security, US Geological Survey, State and the Bueau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
will be held at BIA on June 6th. Joining by phone will be representatives
of the Navajo and Pueblo nations.
Draft agenda is as follows:
- Summary of the history of the project
- Discussion of work by OECD, Organization of Economic Cooperation
and Development
- Discussion of the Vibert mission
- Discussion of proposed links to the Americas, the Pacific and
South Africa
- Discussion of proposed links to the United Nations and other
international institutions
- Discussion of next steps with the US Senate and House of
Representatives.
