AlertNet
is an Internet news and information service run by the Reuters
Foundation asa collaborative project with international relief
agencies. Anyone with Internet access can read rolling news
from Reuters and news from relief organisations about their
work. Relief organisations can also joing a password protected
"Professional Zone" with additional resources. AlertNet
is working on a pilot project funded by the European Commision
to offer a free service of satellite imagery to relief agencies.

Fire Monitoring Center
The GFMC is an activity of the UN International Strategy for Disaster
Reduction (UNISDR) financed by the German Foreign Office, Office for the
Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance. The GFMC provides daily to
regular services in global to national early warning of wildfire,
monitoring of wildland fire activities and impacts, archiving and
linking to global fire information. GFMC is providing advice to
countries in developing national fire management strategies and
policies. The GFMC hotline offers information for countries that submit
an emergency request. The GFMC emergency advice is closely linked with
the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) with
its Joint UNEP-OCHA Joint Environment Unit, Environmental Emergencies
Services Branch. The GFMC is coordinating the UNISDR Wildland Fire
Advisory Group and the Global Wildland Fire Network. The GFMC is based
in Freiburg (Germany).

LLNL has been investigating and assessing the hazards associated
with natural phenomena for DOE since the 1970s. DOE is concerned
about possible damage to its facilities throughout the country
due to such extreme natural hazards as earthquakes, severe
storms, floods, lightning, volcanic eruptions, and extreme
hot or cold.
Hydrometeorological
Prediction Center (HPC): NOAA; Camp Springs, MD. Provides
basic hydrometeorological analysis and forecasts for National
Weather Service field offices and the entire meteorological
community. HPC meteorologists are experts in quantitative
precipitation forecasting and numerical model interpretation.
Products provided by the HPC include surface analyses, outlooks
for heavy rain and snow, and weather forecasts through 5 days.

Hurricane Center (NHC): Tropical Prediction Center (TPC),
